Denisa Reyes Interview

Last Wednesday, Erick and I had a chat with Ms. Denisa Reyes of Ballet Philippines, to talk about NEO FILIPINO 2015 – REBOOT, will open on July 31 at the CCP Little Theater. NEO FILIPINO is a Dance Concert which was conceptualized and launched in New York. Since its conception in 1984, NEO FILIPINO soon became a yearly celebration of contemporary art forms. Ms. Reyes, during her time as the Artistic Director for Ballet Philippines in the 90s, included NEO FILIPINO as part of their ballet season.

Neo Filipino REBOOTThis year, NEO FILIPINO 2015 – REBOOT returns to the CCP to showcase restaged works of nine pioneering contemporary choreographers, whose original works were premiered in NEO FILIPINO concerts produced by Ballet Philippines. Ms. Reyes’ ASONG ULUL, ATBP, a Theater Dance number created for NEO FILIPINO back in 1991 is part of this year’s selection. ASONG ULUL, ATBP. is a theater dance work exploring Filipino mannerisms and find an answer to the question, “What’s wrong with us Filipinos?” in alternating slow and rapid changes of imagery — shifting, fractured and at times surreal. This collage is a collaborative effort of Tanghalang Pilipino actors and Ms. Reyes. (FLIP, 2005).

In this podcast, Ms. Reyes and I talk about what NEO FILIPINO is and how a simple idea of showcasing alternative art forms in the 80s became a traditional and yearly event.

NEO FILIPINO takes the stage from July 31-Aug 2. For tickets and more information, visit the NEO FILIPINO  Event Page or you can call the CCP Box Office at 832-1125 loc 1803 or 1409. Also, you can buy tickets directly from TicketWorld.
