NEWS: Huling hirit nAPO ng Eto Na! Musikal nAPO! : The critically-acclaimed APO Hiking Society musical embarks on its final extension!

APO 2019 Poster extended til 7Apr

Huling hirit na ‘to! Due to insistent, popular demand, 9 Works Theatrical and Globe Live are extending the second run of Eto Na! Musikal nAPO!’s until April 7. Since it debuted in August 2018, word spread like wildfire among millennials, and titos and titas of Manila alike. The clamor for an extension was astounding, to say the least. In theater speak, the show must go on, indeed!

2018 was a resoundingly triumphant year and season for the team behind the production. 9 Works Theatrical, together with its sister company The Sandbox Collective, garnered a total of 30 PHILSTAGE Gawad Buhay nominations for their 2018 productions, Eto Na! Musikal nAPO!, Lungs, and Himala Isang Musikal. The APO Hiking Society jukebox musical is dressed for success, nominated for awards in 11 categories, including Outstanding Musical (Original or Translation/Adaptation), and an unopposed win for director Robbie Guevara for Outstanding Original Libretto. Suffice it to say, it’s been a fantastic way to kick off 9 Works Theatrical’s 10th year and The Sandbox Collective’s 5th year.

Critics have weighed in on the show’s second run, and collectively agree on the production’s consistent, magical touch. The Philippine Daily Inquirer’s Gibbs Cadiz was all praises for the production, in saying,“The Musikal nAPO rerun feels, in many ways, even more moving and exhilarating now.” Meanwhile, ABS-CBN Online’s Jeeves De Veyra believes the second run is even better: “It was already good last year but this time around, it’s easily destined to be one of the greats in Philippine Theater.”

It’s no wonder that the musical captured the hearts of theater goers and families alike with its imaginative reinventions of timeless tunes. Songs such as the love-struck ballad of “Panalangin,” the groovy “Blue Jeans,” and the wise advice of “Batang-Bata Ka Pa” were given a fresh twist by the talented cast. These are all songs that became theme songs at one point or another in nearly every Filipino’s life, cementing APO Hiking Society’s legacy in Filipino pop culture and history.

Set in a university in the 70s, Eto Na! Musikal nAPO! tells the coming-of-age of a ragtag of college friends as they gear up to win a songwriting competition. Through it all, they share triumphs, romantic bliss, and heartbreak. All of this happens under the iron first of Martial Law. What keeps them together is their sheer love for music, and a friendship that stands the test of time and turmoil.
