Gantimpala Theater (GT) joins the Fourth National Theater Festival (NTF) which will be held this November 8 – 18 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
Dubbed as the “kabogera play of the year,” GT’s official entry is Jose Javier Reyes’ “Sayaw ng mga SENIORita,” tells the story of gay friends in their ” prime.” When gathered in a surprise birthday celebration, the event an opportune occasion for the “ghels” to confront their many issues – aging, illness, wealth, destiny, wanting to be alone, the value of friendship and family, love – whether it’s platonic, romantic or erotic and of course, men!
Acting in this Jun Pablo directed drama-comedy are Joel Lamangan as Terry Mangubat, affluent yet penny-pinching business person, Soxie Topacio as Rading de Guzman, famous antique collector, dealer and birthday celebrant, Manny Castañeda as Dr. Gerry Almario, aesthetic and cosmetic surgeon of the stars, Ricky Davao as Romeo Cajanding, bikini-open producer and talent manager of starlets and Bb. Gandanghari, homecoming queen and socialite.
Director Pablo says, “It was Joel Lamangan’s idea to present something new as Gantimpala’s festival entry. After all, Tanghalang Huseng Batute, used to be the home of Bulwagang Gantimpala. As one of the original dramatic arts company of the CCP then, we produced and mounted untried, untested and unstaged plays. Sayaw is a perfect example of a play belonging to that category. This coming back to our original home is also a loving tribute to the late Tony Espejo. He was a maverick! All of us who are part of this play will forever be grateful and indebted to him for touching and changing our lives and for realizing his greater cause, which is to champion Philippine theater and the works of the Filipino playwright.”
Also starring in the play are actors Dax Alejandro, Chase Cervera, Christian Paul Meteoroand Johnron Tañada.
