I never had much opportunities to attend book launchings. Yes, I’d get invites left and right, but was too choosy to attend most of them.
Busy, you know.
But when Blooey, a co-member of the book club which I joined just recently, sent the group an invite early this week to the international launching of J.K. Rowling’s latest novel, THE CASUAL VACANCY, I knew (deep in my heart) that I wouldn’t miss it for the world.
After five years of being silent in the literary scene, her last being THE TALES OF BEEDLE THE BARD, Rowling comes back to hit the bookshelves with a new novel. This one, however, is entirely different from the magical universe that she created from 1997 to 2007.
Surprising us with a glaring yellow-and-red motif for a cover, the international edition of THE CASUAL VACANCY was unveiled earlier at the National Book Store Glorietta 5. Members from media, book clubs and Rowling fans witnessed the formal launch of Rowling’s next best-seller.
THE CASUAL VACANCY tells the story of the little town of Pagford, which is left in shock after the death of Barry Fairbrother. Pagford, seemingly an English idyll, is a town at war. Beneath the happy faces of the folks living in this laid back community, is a covert hatred among its dwellers. And that vacant position left by the dead Fairbrother becomes the springboard of the greatest battle in the history of Pagford.
Interesting, yes? Well that’s Rowling for us.
And did I mention that 10 members of Flips Flipping Pages, including me, got the book for free?!
You can get a copy of THE CASUAL VACANCY in National Book Store, Powebooks and Bestseller branches. For only Php 945.00, you’ll experience Rowling’s hypnotic prowess again!
Thanks again, Blooey for the invite! I owe you one.
